Mifflin Commissioners Respond to Ice Allegations

On Wednesday, the Mifflin County Commissioners issued a special statement. They said it has recently come to the Commissioners’ attention that the Mifflin County Correctional Facility, along with several other rural county correctional facilities, has been erroneously designated by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) as a facility that only partially cooperates with their agency. They say that the ICE website indicates that the Mifflin County Correctional Facility notifies them of detentions, but does not always hold individuals for ICE until they are picked up. County commissioners say this is NOT the case and they are in the process of correcting this erroneous designation. The statement goes on to say that the Mifflin County Correctional Facility has always fully cooperated with ICE and other federal agencies. Meanwhile, Mifflin County continues to evaluate evolving case law. Commissioners also noted that there has been a suggestion that Mifflin County is a “Sanctuary County.” They say nothing could be further from the truth.
