Fireworks Lead to Horse Accident Which Leads to Charges

Back on July 3rd, police answered a call about a horse and carriage accident near the intersection of Greenwood Road and Shawnee Drive in Union Township. As Officers tended to that, they noticed a large fireworks display in the Shawnee Hills area. They learned that the man behind the fireworks was 58-year-old Renato Picciuro of Belleville, and the fireworks were being detonated near seven 1000 gallon above ground propane tanks. Police say the horse accident happened when the horse became spooked by the fireworks. The seventeen-year-old operator lost control of the horse and carriage, flipped over, and went down a steep embankment. The teen was taken to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital for treatment. Since then it has been under investigation, and yesterday police filed charges against Picciuro.
