A new Pennsylvania law aimed at reducing distracted driving will take effect June 5 in Lewistown. Under Paul Miller’s Law, drivers caught holding a mobile phone while behind the wheel—including at stop signs or red lights—can be pulled over by law enforcement. For the first year, offenders will receive a written warning. After that, violations will carry a $50 fine plus court fees. Officials emphasize the law targets all drivers and stresses the dangers of distracted driving. The only allowed phone use is when the vehicle is fully stopped and parked.
