Centre County Man Tased, Jailed After Demanding Police Shoot Him Following High-speed Chase

A 42 year old Lamar man is in jail without bail after allegedly leading Pennsylvania State Police on a high-speed, nine-mile chase through Centre County early Tuesday. Troopers say William Kenneth Smith topped 85 miles an hour, ran stop signs, crossed into oncoming traffic and nearly caused a head-on crash. The pursuit ended with spike strips, but Smith kept going on two flat tires. After stopping, police say he yelled for them to shoot him, resisted arrest, and refused DUI testing. He’s facing more than 20 charges and a hearing is set for May 21.
