A new member has joined the Mifflin County School District Board. Richard A. Smeltz was chosen Thursday night to fill the vacant seat left by Don W. Wright, who resigned earlier this month. Smeltz, a former board member, was selected over R. Brian Ketchem in a split vote. Smeltz was absent due to his wife’s birthday celebration but expressed his commitment through a written statement. He will serve until November 30. His swearing-in date is yet to be set, delaying any committee assignments.
