Huntingdon County School to Remain Shuttered Over Lingering Fuel Leak Issues

A Huntingdon County elementary school will remain closed for at least another year due to lingering issues from a massive fuel leak. Spring Farms Elementary shut down in early 2023 after 7,600 gallons of heating fuel spilled, forcing students to relocate to other schools. Southern Huntingdon County School Board members voted 8-0 to keep the school closed as environmental testing continues. Officials say they won’t reopen the building without a water treatment system and additional safety measures. A final decision on the school’s future will depend on findings from the Department of Environmental Protection.
