New Law to Crack Down on Distracted Drivers

A new Pennsylvania law banning all handheld cell phone use while driving takes effect June 5th. Named “Paul Miller’s Law,” it honors a man killed by a distracted driver and aims to cut down on deadly crashes. Drivers can still use Bluetooth but can’t hold their phones for any reason. The first year brings only warnings, but starting June 2026, violators face a $50 fine plus court costs. Last year, PennDOT reported over 11,000 distracted driving crashes… mainly due to cell phones… with 63 fatalities.
