The Mifflin County Commissioners have proclaimed all this month as United Way Month, marking the 90th anniversary of the organization. United Way Executive Director Colette Hartzler spoke to county leaders about United Way’s Depression-era origins and the challenges it continues to address today, particularly for local workers struggling to meet basic needs. The commissioners also set a fundraising goal of $450,000 for 2025. In other business at their meeting, the board approved several infrastructure and personnel updates, including a new court-appointed counsel agreement for child welfare cases and grant funding for the Adult Probation Department.
