Juniata-lewistown Christmas Bird Count Tallied

The Juniata-Lewistown Christmas Bird Count tallied over 10,000 birds in Juniata County. Nearly 30 birders divided into six sections recorded species like red-bellied woodpeckers, mourning doves, and cardinals. The most counted species included 3,500 European starlings and nearly 800 rock pigeons. Organized by Juniata County Birding, the event contributes data to the National Audubon Society. Volunteers braved cold and wind for the annual tradition, which dates back to the 1980s. Results continue to be compiled.
