A former township official in Centre County is facing serious charges after allegedly embezzling over $532,000 from Gregg Township. Pamela Hackenburg, who served as secretary and treasurer since 2019, was arrested on the eve of Thanksgiving for theft and related crimes. Hackenburg reportedly used her exclusive access to 14 township bank accounts to make unauthorized personal purchases, including $20,000 monthly on gambling via DraftKings. The scheme came to light when an unexpected credit card statement raised concerns. Hackenburg was suspended in May, and an audit revealed disorganized and outdated financial records. Her preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday, December 11.
