A Juniata County woman has lost hundreds of dollars in a scam while trying to surprise her husband with a new truck. The woman was targeted after receiving a friendly message on Facebook. Believing she could turn a small investment into thousands, she followed the scammer’s instructions and bought $900 worth of Apple gift cards. After sending the codes, she was promised a $50,000 package, but the scammers continued to ask for more money. The woman then reported the incident to police, but they say she’s unlikely to recover any of her money. Authorities warn never to send gift card numbers to unknown sources.
