With winter closing in, residents of Mifflin and Juniata Counties can now apply for heating assistance. The federally funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is open for applications, while the locally funded MJ Energy Bank kicks off next Monday, November 18. The community effort helps keep homes warm, covering fuel like oil or kerosene for those facing utility shutoffs. The MJ Energy Bank, supported by United Way and Human Services, operates on donations, with February’s Walk for Warmth serving as the main fundraiser. Residents should prepare documents like income records and Social Security cards before applying.
