The Juniata County Commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, and among the items of business was the approval of a housing services contract worth nearly $30,000 with the Tri-County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission. The new contract will assure continued support for local residents over the next year. During yesterday’s meeting, county leaders also ratified a county-wide burn ban, effective through November 30th. It comes following concerns from fire chiefs and a district forester about the extremely dry conditions. Open flames are restricted, and violators now face fines up to $300. Also yesterday, the Juniata County Commissioners accepted the retirements of long-time county employees, James Bahorik and Terri Stoner, and approved over $111,000 for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program.
