Juniata Woman Pleads Guilty to Fraud

A Juniata County woman has pleaded guilty to social security fraud and theft of public funds. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania says that between February 2008 and December 2021, 53 year old Doris Santana of Thompsontown participated in the HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, receiving rental assistance. She also collected Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration between May 2018 and September of this year. Santana concealed her marriage to an individual, which disqualified her from receiving these benefits, resulting in a loss of over $145,000. The charges, investigated by the Social Security Administration and HUD, carry a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
