Police Warn of New Scam

Mifflin County Regional Police Department issued a scam alert on Tuesday after a resident received a fraudulent call from someone posing as a sheriff’s office official. The caller, who used a real officer’s name and badge number, demanded payment for supposed overdue citations and threatened arrest. The scammer manipulated the caller ID to appear as if the call was from the Mifflin County Sheriff’s Department. Police want to remind everyone that legitimate law enforcement never requests payment over the phone. Residents are advised to avoid providing personal or financial information and to contact local police directly if they receive such calls.
