Guilty Pleas Come From 2017 Penn State Hazing Death

Two former Penn State fraternity leaders have pleaded guilty to charges related to the 2017 hazing death of sophomore Timothy Piazza. Brendan Young and Daniel Casey admitted to 14 counts of hazing and reckless endangerment. Piazza died after a hazing ritual where pledges drank excessive amounts of alcohol. Despite the fact that Piazza suffered severe injuries during the hazing, fraternity members did not seek help until the next day. The case has led to significant anti-hazing legislation, including the “Timothy Piazza Anti-Hazing Law” here in Pennsylvania. Young and Casey will be sentenced on October 1.
