About a year ago, it was a big thing… The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced plans to reintroduce the American Marten into the wilds of Pennsylvania. But when the game commission members met this past weekend, on Saturday, they had a change of heart. They tabled that reintroduction instead of moving forward with a vote on it. The original plan called for a 10 year strategy to bring martens back, and to monitor them. But a survey of about 9,000 hunters discovered that 37% supported the reintroduction, 32% opposed it, and 31% were neutral. The next meeting of the board of commissioners with the Pennsylvania Game Commission will be on April 12th and 13th in Harrisburg, when 2024-25 seasons and bag limits will be finalized, and antlerless deer license allocations will be determined.
