Mifflin Commissioners Meet

On Thursday, the Mifflin County Commissioners held their regular meeting, in which they heard a presentation detailing opioid addiction that is affecting the local community. The commissioners heard from Micaela Mills of the Juniata Valley Tri-County Drug & Alcohol Abuse Commission. She told county leaders that there is a drug and alcohol problem here, and opioid settlement funds have been used to expand treatment and remediation efforts for Opioid Use Disorder in Mifflin, Juniata, and Huntingdon Counties. The Opioid Settlement funds that have been awarded locally are part of nationwide settlements with opioid manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies. Mills said that to date, Mifflin County has received just shy of $204,000 in opioid settlement funding.
