Geisinger Marks National Heart Month

On Friday, Geisinger Lewistown’s cardiopulmonary team turned out in red, to show support for women’s heart health… a little reminder that this month is National Heart Month. The American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day is held annually on the first Friday of February. It was their reminder that heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each yea… more than all cancers combined. According to the American Heart Association, 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events could possibly be prevented with education and action. Women are encouraged to know their risks and do something about them; know their numbers, and do something about them too… meaning watch things like your blood pressure, your cholesterol, and blood sugar; and commit to better health by eating better and exercising.
